Wallingford-Back Mine

The Wallingford-Back Mine near Buckingham, Quebec, is one of the most breathtaking industrial relics in North America. Once one of the largest silica and feldspar mines in the world, it was carved deep into the mountainside, leaving behind a massive subterranean cathedral supported by towering rock pillars.

Though the site has been officially closed to the public for safety and preservation, its legend lives on through the lens. For a photographer, the mine represents the ultimate study in scale, silence, and the surreal.
